Kayak & Klean (March 2017)

Last weekend, SMUX Kayaking went down to Pasir Ris for a conservation paddle, especially apt since it was just before World Water Day on the 22nd of March. We first gathered for a short sharing session on the "Save Bobby" movement, and to learn more about our task for the day. After everyone had found a buddy and suited up, our instructors, Joyce and Willy, led us down to the shore for our launch off :)

We paddled along the shore towards the mangrove areas, where the water was calmer (and as a result, filled with many baby jellyfish!!). Drifting through the mangroves, it felt like that leisurely Sunday morning that most of us haven't had in a while :") There, we spent our time picking up plastic bags and bottles, tugging fishing lines free from the branches, and more often than not, trying to scoop up the slippery jellyfish from the water!!

All in all, our team gathered a whooping total of 26kg in trash. It didn't feel as heavy on each of our individual kayaks, but just as every stroke counts with SMUX Kayaking, so does every effort count in keeping our waters clean :) Till next time!

Check out some photos from our conservation paddle over here, as well as here, courtesy of Roberryarts!
