Can kayakers play ball? We tested it out at Sembawang WV over choppy waters and the results were as usual, number of capsizes > number of scores made!!
Our training ICs first led us along the shore for a short warm up paddle before calling for a surprise capsize drill. One by one, we flipped over in our kayaks and came out into the water, and took turns to rescue each other.
Some of our newcomers were a less confident with the water, but all in all, the drill was a great refresher of our 1 star courses. This turned out to be handy during the actual game of captain's ball in the end, as our cockpits filled with water, destabilising many of us!
We played on a makeshift field - marked out by the tallest coconut trees along the shore line - and jostled furiously for the ball, which rarely landed in our hands, but rather, frustratingly, always in the water. No one kept score this time, but everyone was a winner here - of a great summer tan, and of new and old friendships :") More photos!
