White Water Rafting event is an initiative to promote other “boat and paddle” activity to the students of SMU via SMUX-Kayaking team and to invite more people to join the SMUX Family. With a total of 43 participants, we went to experience one of the most exciting white water rafting at Selangor River in Kuala Kubu Bharu, near the borders of Kuala Lumpur. River rapid ranges from Grade 2 to 4, which we took about 3-4hours to complete. The entire rafting session started off with a safety briefing and letting participants familiarize themselves with the commands, “to the left!”, “to the right!”, “to the front!” and “to the back!”. These commands are needed to gather the crews to the respective side of the raft, so that to assist the instructors in steering the raft using our body weight. After which we were left to try out the rapids with our personal flotation device under the supervision of many instructors. The participants were then split into group of 5-6 for each raft, together with 2 instructors to steer the raft in the river.
The event was then followed by a tour around the firefly river where participants get to enjoy the beautiful creature and have a relaxing time with their newfound friends on the boat.
The trip then ended on a sight seeing tour at the Kota Tinggi Waterfall where participants have fun in the water and enjoy the breathtaking scenery.
